Clean and cost-effective: BlueTec®

New emissions standards

Since 1990, the European Union (EU) has been introducing increasingly drastic reductions to emissions standards. The Euro 4 standard was superseded by Euro 5 in October 2009. Australia has also followed suit with the introduction of the current Euro 4 (ADR 80/02) emission standard in January 2008. The next level of emission standard, Euro 5 (ADR 80/03) will be introduced in January 2011.

At present Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Australia offers both the current Euro 4 emission standard and the future Euro 5 emission standard in all of it's heavy commercial vehicles.

New solutions

Since internal engine modifications alone were unable to offer compliance with the new emissions standards, Mercedes-Benz decided very early on to adopt future-proof technology: exhaust aftertreatment with BlueTec®, based on SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) diesel technology. BlueTec® is a solution capable of achieving cost-effective and dependable compliance with both Euro 4 and Euro 5.

BlueTec® is also an optimum solution for particulate matter as it reduces it below the prescribed limits. No other Euro 4/5 technology has been proven more effective at reducing particulate pollutants. In short: BlueTec® is an impressive player when it comes to the Euro standards and particulate matter. Now and in future.
