For particularly sporty driving which is also safe, good conditions are critical. For example, forward-projecting light, such as the standard bi-xenon headlamps with the Active Light System with cornering light function. ABC, Active Body Control, helps provide the necessary handling and is available as standard equipment in the SL 500, SL 600 and in the AMG models – and the system is also available as an optional extra for the SL 350. The active suspension lowers the vehicle body by up to 15 millimetres at higher speeds to improve road conditions and aerodynamics, minimise wind noise and keep consumption low. For stability and directional stability in the SL, there's the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®). Thanks to its sensitive sensor system it recognises even sudden loss of tyre pressure and warns the driver. A roll-over bar, which is also controlled by sensors, activates as necessary in a fraction of second.
