Mercedes-Benz reduces environmental impact through the use of economically-efficient and clean engines, as well as by the use of sustainable technology – and that, not only under the bonnet. For example, aerodynamic design and intelligent energy management, all contribute towards reducing the consumption and emissions of the S-Class.



The new V6 power unit features spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder and adjustable camshafts. For the S 350 BlueEFFICIENCY and S 350 L BlueEFFICIENCY this means: lower fuel consumption, less CO2 emissions and even greater refinement. Its output is 225 kW, and it delivers its peak torque of 350 Nm at 3500 rpm.

The completely redesigned drive unit excels, on the one hand, with a fuel consumption that is lower than that of the previous model. On the other hand, its performance credentials have been given a significant boost thanks to direct injection and twin turbochargers with intercooling. A power output that has been increased to 320 kW, a substantially higher torque of 700 Nm on tap from just 1800 rpm, plus improved acceleration promise effortlessly superior motoring in every handling situation. More than ever before, the petrol engines of the S-Class now combine intensive driving pleasure and a high level of environmental compatibility.



The newly developed AMG V8 biturbo engine in the S 63 AMG is a compelling proposition thanks to a wealth of technological highlights, including direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion and piezo injectors, twin turbochargers with air/water intercooler, four-valve technology with adjustable camshafts, alternator management and a start/stop function. They enable the V8 engine to generate highly impressive performance figures. Developing 400 kW and a peak torque rating of 800 Nm, the new S 63 AMG far surpasses its predecessor model and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by over 25% to 10.6 l/100 km and 247 g/km.

Mercedes-Benz is passionate about engine design. Our Development department continues to adhere to Gottlieb Daimler's motto that "only the best will do". With this in mind, the company's jewel in the crown, the V12 biturbo engine, has been further refined. Both the S 600 and the S 65 AMG, the top-of-range Mercedes-Benz AMG model, feature sophisticated V12 technology.

With its 830 Nm torque, the V12 is a powerplant with power reserves to spare in every situation. The S 600’s acceleration figures rival that of a sports car, the V12 reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds. The 60 degree cylinder arrangement ensures complete equilibrium of forces.

In the S 65 AMG the engine achieves exceptional performance thanks to its combination of dual exhaust-gas turbochargers and charge-air cooling. Such cutting-edge engine technology ensures an outstanding response from the 12-cylinder engine and maximum torque at a low engine speed.

The 6.0 litre AMG V12 biturbo engine accelerates the AMG top-of-range sports car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.4 seconds.

Both top-of-range 12-cylinder models comply with the EU5 emissions standard and are available only in the long-wheelbase versions with extended wheelbase for additional legroom in the rear compartment.
