With the NEBUS (New Electric Bus) fuel cell bus which it introduced in May 1997, Daimler Buses demonstrated an another possible application for fuel cell drive, in this case for urban buses. With a single fuel tank of hydrogen the NEBUS has a range of up to approximately 250 kilometres.
In regular-service operation in Oslo, Hamburg, Perth, Melbourne, Mexico City and Sacramento the NEBUS demonstrated its operational capability. The hydrogen is stored in seven fibre glass-enclosed aluminium tanks on the roof.
